Sheet steel with hand folded box edges in temporary black wood frame. Hand hammered forms, hand folded creases, natural controlled rusting with selective sanding, paint and polishing.

Jean Des Esseintes is the central character in Joris-Karl Huysmans’s novel À Rebours (1884). A reclusive eccentric aesthete, Des Esseintes, purchases a large tortoise, glazes it’s shell in gold and then elaborately applies brilliant gemstones.
